Summary: We start out this show with Claire's excellent selections of jazz and fusion tracks, followed by music inspired from some recent live performances we attended in Hartford and NYC. We caught Mike Stern at one of our favorite NYC venues, 55 Bar. This is a tiny, intimate venue, and we were seated at the bar, literally two feet from this great guitarist, as you can see from the video I captured that evening. Badal Roy came to Hartford as part of the International Jazz Festival. In addition to his regular quartet, he brought his fellow bandmates from Miles Davis's band Dave Liebman (sax), and Michael Henderson (bass). I shot this video of the ensemble playing from Miles's In A Silent Way. Take note of the gorgeous Bamboo Flute playing by Steve Gorn.
