Podcast Episode Summary
Here we go then with the last mix of the year and it's a real mixed bag of sub-genres. We open on the deep side with a track called "Put Your Sunglasses On" followed by "Inside The Loop" from Jimpster. It's all very laid back to begin with, like having a couple of drinks at your mates before heading into town for the carnage that follows. We stay with the same vibe for "Moody" and "So Clear" before a big friendly dog of a track "Moov Ya Booty" comes bounding in. The next track is just mental and very original "All My Life" sounds like it has so much energy it can't control itself to stick to the straight 4/4. We transition into a bit of a funky disco show with "Soul Bump" and "Never Stop Lovin' You". Spen and the Muthafunkas beef it up into a chunky gospel outing in "I Do Love You". Need to call out the guys at Restless Soul who have been so consistent this year. I don't go out of my way to hunt for their releases, but I pretty much always end up buying them and putting them in mixes and this month is no exception. "Alive" is another great example of the quality work they have been doing all year and we salute you for it, more of the same in 2012 please :) . Don't often play two mixes of the same track, even across mixes, but when Louie Vega is the guy doing the second remix its hard not too. Hard to get your head around just how creative the guy is with such incredible richness in his productions and you can hear it again in "I Love The Night". "Music In My Mind" has more remixes than there are days in the week to play them so choosing one is tough, however the MKTL vocal mix fits into the mix perfectly. It's time to shift the feel of the mix again and "Amame" is perfect for giving the mix a deeper edgy feel. It's not in for long though and we soon up the tempo again with "The Biz" and "Remote Control". The next track "Hubble" is the big bad wolf of the mix, it really will bite your ear off if you get to close. The mix ends with a very different sounding track and it's aptly named "Untitled", it is a cracker though. Must admit I was dubious at the start of the year in being able to do a mix every month. Some months it feels like there isn't as much quality about and you start to worry that maybe this is the beginning of the end. However looking back over 2011 despite missing a month here or there I'm pleased to say it's been another year of mixes I'm proud to put my name to. Thanks to everyone that takes the time to listen and provide feedback, it makes it all worth while. Looking forward to hearing what 2012 brings for us musically. Well it has literally just turned midnight on NYE as I type, so have a great new year everyone. I better get this puppy released, as it's now officially late (well in Australia anyway :)) )
