Podcast Episode Summary
Hmmm, not sure what's gone on over new year, but there aren't many good releases to choose from this month! Desperately hoping everyone is still hung over and the quality will start to flow soon. As a result this months mix has 6 tracks that I've tried to get into a mix from as far back as 2007! That doesn't mean this is the rejects mix!! And to prove the point we have the opener "Morris" from Bah Samba, a real peach of a track from 07, that for some reason I've never been able to fit in with the tracks of more recent mixes. The next couple of tunes "It's Gonna Be Alright" and "Feel It" have quite an upbeat feel considering they are just getting us warmed up. Next up is another track from Circle Of Funk, it was "London Groove" that first got my attention, and after digging I found "M4 Movements". If only the journey from London to Berkshire were as great as this, I might not have had road rage in the UK!! The soulful vocal stuff begins with "City High". It's safe to say that Mr Carretas certainly hasn't taken his foot off the gas from 09. His alternate mix of "And I Know It" is one of my favourite tracks on the mix, yet more class, love it. "BSC" is another track from last year that I just couldn't find a home for in the November or December mix, but it's here now in all it's glory, just close your eyes and think of your favourite beach at sunset. A recent boat cruise round the Sydney Harbour reminded me I hadn't dropped "Down Time" in mix last year either. That tune got the top deck bouncing, cheers Nick. Next up is a short little track "Magic", but what it lacks in length in makes up for in depth. We then have our first classic "Reach For Me", quality Miami Murk filth from 92. Jovonn drops a bomb with "Don't Get Too Close", deep bouncing grinding house. "Push" is a beefed up loop of a track from yesteryear which I'm sure I've got, but I can't think what it is, answers on a postcard! "Stop That" is crazy mashed up house, but you need a bit of that every now and again. I fell in love with the next track "Help Myself" on Kevin Saunderson's Mixmag Vol5 mix, which funnily enough also included "Reach For Me" (only just realised that while righting this!) Finally got hold of a copy in 08, and two years later managed to find a home for it. We have yet another track from the 90's, this time 97. "U Can't Hide From Your Bud" has just been revamped by Sneak, but it's the original that got me bouncing back then and today. The mix ends with a remake of another classic, "Nervous Track". The original needs no introduction. Fingers crossed for next months mix, at this rate they may all be tunes from back in the day!
