Podcast Episode Summary
We invited Core Conversations organizers to produce a short podcast to introduce the issues they plan to discuss. A new programming element for the 2008 SXSW Interactive Festival, Core Conversations will make it easier for more attendees to participate in the informal hallway-type exchanges of information that are such a popular part of the event. The Core Conversations room will feature six concurrent discussions during each hour-long timeslot.

Pink Ghetto Blasters: Destigmatizing Sex via Online Community Building
Ballroom E
Saturday, March 8th
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The Internet has increased access to sexually explicit material while simultaneously creating a new category, “NSFW” (not safe for work), with which to stigmatize sexual material and the discussions around it. Join us to discuss specific strategies for expanding the acceptance of sexual content. We start with the assumption that the stigma around sexuality is still a social problem, and the very blurry category NSFW reinforces that stigma. We see the networking and organizing power of Web 2.0 technologies as a tremendous source of power and cultural leverage for marginalized groups, especially because everybody can learn to use these tools.
