Podcast Episode Summary
Hello people. Greg Spencer doesn't like writing about myself in third person so:
I have been in and around the NZ techno scene for 14 years.
Originally from Wellington, it all began one fatefull day when I found
Kraftwerks 'Electric Cafe' in Slow boat records as a 14 year old boy.
Many sneak out sessions to raves that the parents didn't know about followed.
After this I hooked up with some like minders and we put on our own parties,
but also around this time my other passion of film began taking over the reins as head honcho.
In the later years of Wellington before leaving for the big smoke Auckland I busied
myself with directing and doing visual effects for a swag of New Zealand music
videos, for artists such as Blackseeds, Rhombus, Paselode, Soane and Bic Runga
amoung others.
At this time I also had a residency at Lie-low (the old ex-barbodega)
in wellington at my weekly electro/electroclash/techno night. These sets could last up
to 8 hourslong.
Moving up to Auckland for more visual effects work I decided to kick it up a gear
and begin dj'ing out more. After meeting and talking to Matt Drake
we decided to push a unique sound of mashed up techno and electro
(not the electro most New Zealanders know today....the proper stuff)
at a regular night called 'Automatique' at Fu.
For the next two years in Auckland I played at such parties as
Enter the Dragon, Jack the Box, Electro Truckers and Ammunition, and
had a weekly radio show on georgefm alongside Simon Beesting.
Now living in london I hope to put my two loves together and make music video
and promos for the artists I listen to and love in the dance scene, and perhaps
for myself as well.
You can catch Me if your in London each wednesday night
@ The Player bar, 10 Broadwick Street, Soho
from 9pm till late.
The following mix was done the old fashioned way. Spur of the moment,
A mixer, some fx, 2 decks, a cdj and a 12 pack
of beer.
