New Jack Swing (or Swingbeat) was the name of the of style music being produced by a young Teddy Riley during 1980’s which integrated the soulful vocals of Soul & R&B over a Hip Hop influenced beat. And although it had just as many enemies as it did friends, it had a huge influence over urban music.
