Podcast Episode Summary
Pariah is the new film heading for awards season about a young black girl's coming-out experience. She doesn't fit into the feminine role her mother wants her to assume and she doesn't fit into her butch friend Laura's queer world. This movie is a beautifully shot, funny, poignant, and dramatic story that we have rarely seen in film. Marilyn interviews writer-director Dee Rees, who studied with Spike Lee at NYU and got him onboard as an executive producer. The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Festival.
