Gossip spreads faster than a wildfire in July and rumors fly faster than time. In the town of Kinstley, Ohio, things are just like that. Everyone has a secret and keeping that secret is one of the hardest of all things to do.
When Kiersten Mae Clark rolls into town with her two year old twins, everyone’s buzzing and trying to figure out what such a young woman is doing without her husband. Kiersten doesn’t plan to stay long, but something about Kinstley captures her heart. Still the secret she keeps is one thing she’s not willing to share with just anyone. Kiersten is on the run from her fatally violent husband; a husband that will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Unfortunately, he wants Kiersten and their small children.
Kiersten used to be Mae Samantha Combee, but when on the run people have to take drastic measures. Kiersten changed her name to the current and even dyed her naturally blond her to a dark brown. The children couldn’t be changed and Kiersten didn’t want them to be.
Anyways, now in small Kinstley, Ohio, Kiersten is trying to start fresh and start a new life. After settling in a small apartment, Kiersten gets a job at small bookstore. Things aren’t easy and money’s tight, but Kiersten is determined to make it work out for the sake of her children. A couple of months have passed since Kiersten moved to Kinstley and so far things have run smoothly.
Kiersten has managed to make a few friends, but she never planned to fall in love. The owner of the bookstore was an elderly woman. With no signs of sickness, the old woman unexpectedly passed away. Her young grandson has taken over running her business and Kiersten gradually begins to fall for the man. Though, her feelings are returned, Kiersten has no idea.
It seems so simple and is until her abusive husband finds her. He promises change and though she has no ounce of belief in him, she fears what he’ll do if she turns him away. Letting him back into her life and home, Kiersten is waiting for the switch to be flipped and the man she knows to return. Living in constant fear she doesn’t know how to get away from a man who promises death is the only way out of their marriage. How will things pan out? Only time will tell…
