Every day, while working on your Microsoft Outlook application, you send/ receive emails and perform other operations, such as creation of tasks, events, calendar entries etc. Outlook stores all these emails and other entries in PST files and with every operation, even with any single incoming or outgoing mail, the Outlook PST size increases. Usually, the Outlook PST size has a maximum permissible size limit and beyond this limit, the PST becomes corrupt. If the PST file gets corrupt or damaged, you fail to access neither your precious emails nor any other mail objects. However, there are many PST file splitter utilities to split the large PST files into smaller ones and help you prevent corruption of same.
Users in the field of marketing or similar sections of an organization usually send and receive hundreds of mails every day. Hundreds of mails mean the PST size of their Outlook increases beyond the maximum feasible size in a year or two. Moreover, if somebody is using an older Outlook version, such as Outlook 2002 or 2000, then the maximum PST size is only 2 GB. Outlook attains this 2 GB size quite early and the chances of its corruption increases. In case of PST file corruption, no mail or other mail component can be accessed from the corresponding mailbox.
Hence, it is advised to remove large and unnecessary or junk attachments from your mailbox, which will decrease the overall PST size. Apart from this, you can extract mails as well as the corresponding attachments into some local folder, which will lower the size of PST file and help avoiding corruption. Below steps will guide you in searching the mails with large attachments so that you can remove/move them to any local folder of your system:
- Open your MS Outlook 2002 and go inside the Tools menu.
- Click the option, ‘Advanced Find’.
- From the ‘Look for’ list, select ‘Messages’.
- Click the tab, ‘More Choices’.
- From the list, ‘Size (Kilobytes), choose the option, ‘greater than’. In the box under ‘Size (Kilobytes), type in 500.
- Click ‘Find Now’. All those mails with attachments of size 500 KB or above will get listed.
You can remove them or move them to any folder in your system hard drive. If you are removing them, then also remember to empty the ‘Deleted items Folder. However, the problem can remain unsolved. Also removal of mails cannot be a wise solution all the time. As a solution the large pst file can be splitted into small pst files.
This process of breaking an oversized pst file includes to
split pst file into smaller pst files on the basis of different criteria like
date, time, email Id, folder size etc. Such utility is named as
PST splitter and helps in reducing the overall size of large pst file. It can split single as well as multiple pst file in a fast and secure manner.
