Podcast Episode Summary
Global R&D funding is expected to grow about 5.2 percent in 2012, but U.S. government funding is falling in real terms and the pharmaceutical industry is expected to cut its R&D spending by 5.7 percent. That’s the findings of the Battelle-R&D Magazine annual Global R&D Funding Forecast, which says global growth in R&D funding will be largely driven by Asian economies. We spoke to Martin Grueber, Battelle Research Leader and co-author of the report, about the R&D funding outlook, the changing models of research within the pharmaceutical sector, and whether the industry will be able to find new ways to innovate for less.
