Podcast Episode Summary

This week's episode of The Shrine is dedicated to Queen Mother Warrior Sista NJERE ALGHANEE, a.k.a SISTA KOURAGE. Mama NJERE made her transition Thursday, June 24, 2010, leaving behind a warrior legacy rarely paralleled in this day and time. In honor of Mama NJERE, DJ 4th Wurld carries one of many torches she passed back; that being the work of bonding Afrika to Nu Afrika.
First up on the program, 4th Wurld is joined by Vocal Slender, new-comer to the Nigerian music scene who made a name for himself in the BBC documentary Welcome To Lagos. Vocal Slender lived and worked in Olusosun Rubbish Dump, a waste dump in Lagos, Nigeria that is home to many of Nigeria's hardest hustlers. Through an unrelenting drive to improve his situation, Vocal Slender conquered the seemingly insurmountable stronghold of abject poverty to become one of Nigeria's newest superstars. Second, 4th Wurld conducts a one-on-one conversation with Senegalese Hip Hop group Wageble. The duo stops by to discuss the group's music, along with Senegal's thorough history as the kingdom of Afrikan Hip Hop, the erection of the controversial African Renaissance Monument, and President Wade's offer to assist the victims of Ayiti's devastating earthquake in January.
Hear music by both Vocal Slender and Wageble as well as audio of Mama NJERE speaking during one of her last appearances in the media as a pan-Afrikan journalist.
