On this week's episode, The Shrine begins the 2010 WRFG Summer Marathon with a presentation of words from the elders.
First up, 4th Wurld recognizes the 46th anniversary of FANNIE LOU HAMER's famous account of police terrorism, torture, and classism via her address to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on July 22, 1964. Hear the rarely-heard, entire address given by her to the DNC, as The Shrine honors this inflexible Queen Mother Warrior.
Also, for the first time ever on radio, The Shrine presents director Jaheed Ashley's award winning documentary FELA NYC: FRESH FROM AFRICA. Jaheed Ashley (2010) states, "[FELA NYC is] a powerful up close and personal view of FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI's historic visit to New York City in [1986]...FELA had just been released from prison with the help of Amnesty International...[and] came to New York to support their efforts to free all political prisoners."
