Podcast Episode Summary
Hello, this weeks guest mix comes from Chris Kinoke...
Born and bred in the Rhine-Main area surrounding Frankfurt/ Germany, DJ and producer Christian (or Chris) Kionke was infected with electronic music before he could even walk properly, when his dad introduced him to Kraftwerk at a very early age. The infection soon took over his being and after years of partying throughout the 1990s to the sounds of legendary Frankfurt-based DJs like Sven Väth, Mark Spoon, DJ Dag or Pascal FEOS, he eventually started DJing for himself at a local club back in 1997 - heavily influenced by the so-called "Sound of Frankfurt" in all of its facettes.
Never shy about being open-minded to simply anything as a listener as well as a DJ, Chris honed his craft on the decks, using turntables and CDJs along with FX devices to spice up his sets. “It’s VERY important to remain open-minded about what you’re doing, so when I’m behind the decks it’s never going to be ‘just House’ or ‘just Electro’ or ‘just Techno’. More often than not it will be a mixture of styles that might include Acid, Breakbeats, House, Techno, Minimal, Chicago, Detroit, Electro, you name it. It depends on the party and the audience at that moment, but almost every time it turns out to be something good to remember. The key lies in connecting with the crowd and seeing how far you can go together!”
Chris is currently touring all over Germany and has lately caught some attention within the inner circle of Frankfurts music scene, so his story is finally about to come full circle now... DJ sets with icons like Tom Wax, Peter Latino, Bill Youngman, Ziel 100, TokTok and George Perry can be found in his agenda, in locations and on events like "Ebene 3" , Vinylbar", "Tanzhaus West", "Burning Vinyl" , "Diamond Voices" or (scheduled for 2010) one of germanys best and most famous clubs, the legendary U 60311 in Frankfurt! Plus, having established a circle of friends and colleagues all over the UK hasnt hurt his case either, so a few gigs outside of Germany are currently being planned also for 2010.
Furthermore, Chris can be heard on the radio every week, hosting two shows on underground stations "Kick 106" and "Twisted Energy" bringing you the flavour and showing off his taste and musical turn-ons of the moment! And then, there are his own productions (created with some fellow musicians and producers from his area) waiting to be heard soon.....
The journey is far from over. Fasten you seatbelts and get ready for the ride, this up-and-coming talent still has some aces up his sleeves!
The Mix
Starting off with the minimal/ electro anthem by La Rez "Where Are We From" to point out his Frankfurt heritage, Chris soon switches gears towards some driving, banging classic style techno with tracks by Butch and Heckmann (twice), Christian Smith and Electric Rescue before peaking with Perc & Fractals powerful and still mindblowing "Up". Following his credo of "expect the unexpected", Chris then takes a sharp u-turn to present "Crownprince Of Electro" Anthony Rothers anthem "Moderntronic 1" and incorporates yet another vocal masterpiece with Dennis Ferrers "hey Hey" before delivering the biggest surprise to date with the 17 year old classic that is "The Age Of Love".
All in all a selection of current dancefloor fillers and also a tribute to the rich history in dance music that is associated with the city of Frankfurt/ Germany!
