Podcast Episode Summary
Dec. 11, 2011 - Religious holidays pose a dilemma for Unitarian Universalists. If we don't understand these occasions literally-and we don't-then what are we celebrating? If, for example, we are skeptical that Jesus was born in a stable, with angels singing, visited by wise men guided by a star, then why do we gather on Christmas Eve to sing those carols? And what about Hanukkah, Easter, Passover, any of a number of such observances? In this sermon, part of our Unitarian Universalist polity series, we consider the question of why and how we might address religious holidays that may not be our own.
