Social Bookmarking The Newest Way to Promote Your Podcast
A new trend has taken place on the Internet which is called social bookmarking. Many sites now use this method to promote a website. The basic concept behind social bookmarking is “tagging,” similar to what has been discussed in previous chapters. If you have ever “tagged” your site using flick.com or del.icio.us, you will already be familiar with this concept.
In basic words, social bookmarking uses assigned keywords for a particular URL. Unlike tagging, this is done specifically within each service, rather than in the script of the website itself. You would sign up for an account at certain social bookmarking sites and use your account to set up your podcast’s website with specific keywords and descriptions. Others can find your site and its social bookmark online and this is a good way for them to become new listeners or subscribers to your podcast.
Sign up for an account at the following social bookmarking websites and use them to promote your podcast and gain new listeners and subscribers:
- Blue Dot
- Del.icio.us
- Digg
- Diigo
- Furl
- GiveALink.org
- Ma.gnolia
- My Web
- Netvouz
- Newsvine
- Reddit
- Simpy
- SiteBar
- StumbleUpon
- Thoof
For example, you would sign up for a site, such as del.icio.us, you would want to add a link to the page to where your podcast is available for downloading. When you add this link, you want to change the associate keyword to match something important about the content of your podcast, like “Siamese cats” if your site is about these animals.
Users of the social book marking sites can do a search to locate information on Siamese cats and will find your podcast’s website, allowing you to gain more listeners and subscribers.
